"What Planet do we live on?" "Chile!"

Hi there!

Hope y’all are doing well. Get ready for a not-so-long post. A normal week at school makes for a pretty uneventful post. But nonetheless…

This week we’ve been learning all about animal adaptations along with adjectives. We did a fun activity where we created a monster based on how the kids described him, but they couldn’t see him until the end. The kids then created their own monsters –they were quite interesting and nothing short of creative!

This weekend I spent a lot of time relaxing –working with children really takes it out of you! I did find time to go shopping and get my nails done. I also went to Flo and Benja’s house for their Sunday family lunch. At lunch we ate pastel de choclo, which is a corn-based meal with beef, egg, chicken, raisins, onions and olives. It was very delicious. I prepared Oreo Balls –a scrumptious American treat, for dessert. They tasted much better than they looked….

^^ My friend Benja is a super talented magician -he was runner up for Chile's Got Talent!!

^^ My girl Bruna

Afterwards, I explored el Parque Bicentenario –a beautiful park here in Santiago. It was such a peaceful walk. I saw some really strange things like people walking their ferrets. It was the perfect way to end a relaxing weekend.

Laughable Moments:

  • I went to buy a pumpkin in the grocery store but when I got up to the register, there was no price tag sticker. Here, if your item doesn’t have a sticker, they won’t call someone to go check –you have to go. And sometimes they’re rude about it. So I told the lady to forget about it. When I got home, I found the sticker stuck to my shirt…

  • Talking about habitat destruction, “Why do you think there are rabbits living in the city?” , “because some people have carrots in their houses”.

  • “What planet do we live on?” Unanimously, “Chile!” -__-

  • My co-worker was trying to tell me “his parents are in denial” but with her accent all I heard was “his parents are in The Nile” I was so confused.

  • I have heard two friends now refer to “tights” or “Nylons” as “panties”. It became clear I needed to say something when my friend said “This time last year it was so warm that I went to a wedding and wore a dress without panties.”

  • I saw a stray dog on my way home from the grocery store so I offered him some expensive bakery bread but he didn't want it. High maintenance...

^^ A clown got on the bus ride home from work and started imitating the driver –that was the only time I’ve ever enjoyed the presence of a clown

^^I've seen several kids whip passed me at school on these backpack scooters and I've decided that I need one immediately.

^^ After a relaxing bubble bath, I got locked in the bathroom for about 5 minutes. Needless to say, all of the stress came rushing back!

^^ The kids are required to wear sunscreen and hats during the summer months -these hats were donated by Eucerin for all of the kids and most definitely remind me of the movie Holes

^^ A strange man gave me a free rose at the mall because it was Lancôme's 80th birthday

^^Because who wouldn't want a shirt covered in eyelashes?! It also comes in black!

^^ Christmas is in full effect! And we thought we were jumping the gun in America!

^^ I got to Skype my favorite person in the world, my god father!!!

^^ I really love these wild flowers. They close up when the sun is not out.

Wishing everyone back home a happy Halloween. You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll still be celebrating in Chile -Halloween is the best holiday ever!!

P.S. Who else is obsessed with the new Adele song?!
