A Week in the Toilet

Hey there!

It’s been an interesting week filled to the brim with Murphy’s Law. For starters, you won’t see many pics in this week’s post because I dropped my phone into the toilet… and it was conveniently after I had peed in it. I’m currently trying to dry it out in a bowl of rice which I’ve heard works, but so far we have made no progress. Luckily, my phone insurance is willing to ship to Chile.

If that’s not enough bad luck for you, last night I went to take the trash out, the trash shoot is literally right outside my door. I probably walked a total of 3 steps out the door, and I heard the door close behind me. Sooo I was locked out again, this time in my bathrobe, wet hair and no shoes. I went to my neighbors’ house again because they were able to help me break in last time. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get inside this time (maybe that’s a good thing). We had to call a locksmith. Thankfully my neighbors are the nicest people I’ve ever met and invited me to stay in their apartment and wait for the locksmith. I probably spent 2.5 hours with them. I gave them a spare key, for the next time this occurs.

We got to talking and I learned that they are originally from Colombia. They have a 10-month-old baby, who was born in Chile. I asked them if they were planning on returning to Colombia and they told me they’d like to move to the U.S. or Canada or maybe even Europe because their son was born with Down's Syndrome and these countries would give him the best quality education and life. My heart ached for them, I actually didn’t know the baby had Down's until they told me. I respect them so much for wanting the best quality life for their son.

This week in school, we began to wrap up our third unit. It’s very clear that everyone is tired and in need of a break. Luckily, this is our final week before our much needed two-week vacation!

^^ This weekend I spent some time revamping my plant collection

Laughable Moments:

  • One of my students decided it would be a good idea to stick a colored-pencil in his ear. The tip broke off and got stuck. The nurse couldn’t get it out so they sent him to the hospital to get it removed.

  • Another student (this isn’t so laughable) got his finger caught on the door and almost lost his entire finger. Thankfully I wasn’t on recess duty, because they’d have to send me to the nurse with him for fainting. There was blood everywhere and he was taken by ambulance to get stitches. Luckily, they saved his finger.

  • On Friday morning, 5 of my girls came up to me to tell me something important. They all said in unison, "Miss, we saved a bug at recess yesterday. We spent the whole recess saving it." I gave them all stickers.

Heres to hoping I have better luck this week. Also, I’m sending a big happy birthday to the homeland tomorrow!! We will be having a grand July 4th Celebration at school, so stay tuned for next week’s post.
